From a technical point of view, each iPhone is yet another workstation in your IT infrastructure, so it’s never been more important to be security conscious. TARMAC allows the iPhone to connect to your network without violating your company’s security policies.

Why TARMAC?

TARMAC lets you set up as many iPhones and iPads as necessary, without needing to physically connect to a computer. TARMAC operates within your company network and automatically creates personalised user profiles from your existing user data. Save time and reduce costs with TARMAC as you deliver individually tailored settings over the air to company iPhones.
The TARMAC concept
To generate iPhone configuration files, TARMAC connects with your company's directory service and uses your data to automatically create profiles on the fly. You can use these profiles to change the settings on the iPhone or iPad to fit your company's needs:
Email accounts, calendars, VPN access, WiFi, APN, and whether employees can access certain websites, YouTube, or the built-in camera. You can also require users to meet specific criteria when entering a new password.
As soon as an iPhone or iPad user logs in to the TARMAC web interface, a personalised user profile is created and made available to download and install. TARMAC uses your user database (Active Directory, Open Directory, Open LDAP or MySQL) to set up your company's iPhones and iPads.

SCEP with own Certificate Authority

TARMAC uses trusted certificates to get your iPhone up and running securely. You can use the integrated Certificate Authority (CA) from TARMAC, or specify your own CA to encrypt and decrypt confidential data as it is transmitted. TARMAC allows you to enroll certificates via the SCEP (Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol).

What does TARMAC actually install?
TARMAC is installed on your network and acts as middleware between your directory service and your employees' iPhones and iPads. To create a personalized user profile, TARMAC Server automatically connects to your LDAP directory in an Active Directory, Open Directory, Open LDAP or your MySQL database. This information is then turned into an iPhone-optimized format.

  • A profile for every group

TARMAC supports user groups, which means you can control who can see and install which profile. Using this method you can give different access rights to different user groups. Determine which department should have access to specific internal resources or whether users may modify or delete their profile.
    Asset management and log files
TARMAC automatically records which logged in users have downloaded profiles. Since you can store different profiles in TARMAC, you can get an accurate picture of which iPhones and iPads are up to date in your company and inform employees when new profile updates are available.
